Heiner Müller (1994)
In his plays, the writer and dramatist Heiner Müller dealt critically with conditions in East Germany. As a result, he was repeatedly criticized by the SED, and his works were banned from performance. Although official SED cultural policy adopted a more positive view of him in the 1980s, Müller retained his critical perspective on the blockages within East German society. A reform Marxist, he was one of the speakers at the Alexanderplatz demonstration on November 4, 1989. Portrait photo of Heiner Müller by Ingrid von Kruse.
