Inferno in Dresden's Inner City (February 13, 1945)

During the night of February 13, 1945, Dresden withstood the heaviest Allied air attack of the war. Enormous quantities of explosives and fire bombs led to an estimated 40,000 civilian deaths and left the inner city almost completely destroyed. Photo by Carl Weinrother.
