German History in Documents and Images (GHDI) is a comprehensive collection of primary source materials documenting Germany's political, social, and cultural history from 1500-2000. It comprises original German texts, all of which are accompanied by new English translations, and a wide range of visual imagery. The materials are presented in ten sections, each of which has been edited by a leading scholar. All of the materials can be downloaded free of charge and used for teaching, research, and related non-commercial purposes.

GHDI is an initiative of the German Historical Institute, Washington, DC. Made possible by the generous support of the Max Kade Foundation, the project has been undertaken in cooperation with the Friends of the German Historical Institute and the Bildarchiv Preußischer Kulturbesitz.
